Surveyor

Position Details

The Construction Surveyor is responsible for upcoming field tasks, to include planning, scheduling, calculations, materials, and equipment necessary for surveying, control, and various layout. Must ensure that the work is performed to contract quality standards, and fully meets the intent and specific requirements of the contract. The Surveyor makes sure that the results are presented in a manner that is accurate, efficient, timely and above all professional.

Responsibilities

  • Provide working lines and elevations to assist with the construction of roads and structures
  • Verify tolerances and dimensions for QVE certification
  • Perform topographic and cross section survey for baseline measurement and payment quantities
  • Employ survey techniques to check and record as-built conditions
  • Create digital terrain models from designed profiles and cross sections
  • Calculate grading and stockpile volumes
  • Document/review documentation of survey work
  • Work with the Project Team to coordinate survey work with the construction plan

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in all aspects of topographic survey and construction layout
  • Proficient in geometric control and tolerance measurement
  • Competency in calculating and transposing design alignment for survey instrumentation
  • Demonstrated ability to create digital terrain models from profiles and cross sections of design
  • Proficient in use of Trimble and Topcon surveying equipment, handling Total Station for geodetic networks, and GPS and RTK post-processing techniques
  • Experience with Inroads and Terramodel applications in bridge and highway construction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project survey functions and coordinate with construction plan needs
  • Software proficiency: AutoCad, Power Inroads, Terramodel, Office
  • Ability to accurately read contract drawings
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong team player
  • Minimum 5 years progressive experience in high precision surveying techniques for major bridge and highway infrastructure construction
  • Degree/diploma in engineering or survey technology
  • 2 years technical engineering/surveying training plus minimum 1-year construction surveying experience or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
