Highway 17 Rainbow Falls

Bot is the general contractor for the grading, drainage, granular base, hot mix paving and structural work on Highway 17, 8 kilometers west of Schrieber including the Hewitson Creek Culvert. Construction started in late June 2025 with completion planned for October 2027.

The project will enhance the Trans-Canada highway corridor in Northwestern Ontario. The contract includes the excavation of 350,000 cubic metres of earth, over 230,000 cubic metres of rock, and the processing of approximately 150,000 tonnes of granular (from the rock excavation) for the road base.

Project works include the replacement of the Hewitson Creek Culvert and realignment of Highway 17, as well as the addition of fully paved shoulders for a section of Highway 17 west of the highway realignment.

  • Realignment of Highway 17 between the Hydro corridor and CPKC tracks.
  • New Hewitson Creek culvert crossing along the new Highway 17 alignment.
  • New culvert crossings for other unnamed watercourses within the new alignment.
  • Decommission existing highway alignment and existing culvert crossings including existing Hewitson Creek culvert.
  • New entrance road and parking area at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park.
